The Joy of a New Client

I truly enjoy being engaged by a new client. To have the chance to get to know new people and a new business activity; to apply what experience and understandings I can bring to the task; to make a positive difference for them; to bear some of their load; and to feel worthwhile.

The President of Extraordinary Events, Andrea Michaels, puts the enjoyment well. “I try to incorporate life’s lessons from everyone around me….I look at every person I meet as a new and thrilling experience with which I’m gifted. ….. Every new client or project represents the possibility of meeting new people and having new adventures” While I serve in a more traditional profession than this mega-event impresario, her perspectives resonate with me.

We are all in the service business, whether we sell Services or Goods-and-Services. Because every transaction involves service, even if one’s product is an undifferentiated commodity. It is the service component that enables a margin above the floor price. The goodwill intangible which encompasses confidence, knowhow, guidance, reliability, integrity, responsiveness, convenience, loyalty and pleasant dealing. Just as in a business sale transaction, the intangible component can often be the biggest part of the price.

Through 2014, all the companies I serve have expanded or refreshed their offerings, repowered their sales forces and gained wonderful new clients, thus renewing their business health. Their people have worked hard.

So, in this joyful season of creation and recreation, may I congratulate all of you who have kept your service levels high through the year, gaining and retaining clients, and trust your year ahead will deliver growth and prosperity with and through them.

I wish you a Joyful Christmas and a Rewarding New Year!
